“Where is the giant?” he whispered.

“He’s there!” the girl whispered, pointing at the brown wall.

Arthur looked more closely at the wall. He saw that it was moving in time to the snoring. The giant wasn’t behind the wall. The giant was the wall!

Arthur took a step back. His foot hit something and he tripped. A stone rolled across the floor of the cave.

The snoring stopped.

The brown wall of the giant’s back began to move.

The giant sprang to his feet. He was huge. Arthur’s head only came up to his knee. The giant bent down and roared at Arthur. Then he picked up a club as big as a tree and put one end in the fire. He stomped towards Arthur waving the burning club.

Arthur froze. How could he fight this monster? He slashed with his sword at the giant’s leg. But the sword cuts did not hurt the giant at all. He just laughed and he picked Arthur up with one hand. Slowly he began to squeeze. Arthur felt his ribs cracking as the giant squeezed tighter and tighter. There was nothing Arthur could do.
